Ireland name team for European Junior Championships
The Irish team has been confirmed for next month’s European Men’s and Women’s Junior Championships in Anapa.
26 boxers will represent Ireland in the Russian city with boxing beginning at the Black Sea holiday resort on October 9th.
All of the Irish fighters won national titles at the Senior Cadet championships last month bar +80kg Kerry boxer Kori Goad who is currently listed as TBC.
Ireland will be represented in all weight categories in Anapa.
Ireland won three gold at the 2017 European Juniors (Callum Walsh, Daina Moorehouse, Aoibhe Carrabine), one silver (Dean Clancy), and two bronze (Catherine Blaney, Ciara Brien). The men’s and women’s tournaments were held two months apart with 2018 being the first year of joint championships at continental level.
Both Niamh Fay and European Schoolboys gold medallist William Hayden competed at the European Juniors last year, while there are also spots on the team for European Schoolboys gold medallist Jason Myers, and silver medallists Eoghan Lavin, Steven Cairns, and Patrick Sweeney.
