Ireland confirm captain for the European Championships
London 2012 Olympian Darren O’Neill will captain the Irish team at the 2015 European Men’s Elite Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria.
Irish head coach Billy Walsh confirmed today that the Kilkenny southpaw, who captained Team Ireland at the London Olympics and the recent European Games, will skipper the seven-strong Irish squad at the 41st edition of the European Elites.
O’Neill claimed a silver medal at the 2010 European Elites at the Ice Palace in Moscow at middleweight. He’ll box at heavyweight in Samokov next month.
The Irish squad finish up training at the National Stadium in Dublin tomorrow and will have a few days off before returning to Dublin next Tuesday before traveling to Bulgaria next Wednesday.
Boxing at the 2015 European Men’s Elite Championships begins on Friday week, August 7th.
