Imagine how many class shows we could have if more were like Cummings and Meli says Pat Man

Paddy Gallagher hopes the example set by Conrad Cummings and Alfredo Meli is followed by the host of up-and-coming talents on the pro scene at the minute.

Cyclone’s ‘Dynamite’ middleweight and Belfast’s Celtic Nations Champion Meli put their unbeaten records on the line at the Waterfront Hall on Friday night in probably the most eagerly awaited small hall bill-toppers in recent history.

Both have been commended for being willing to fight, while their teams have been congratulated for making such a fan-friendly clash. Fellow boxer Gallagher, who is in welterweight action on the undercard, is also happy with the match up and, speaking like a true fight fan, told Irish-boxing.com he hopes more prospects in Ireland follow suit.

The Pat Man believes the pool of talent, and the number of pros active at the minute, means Irish fans could be treated to a host of quality domestic dust-ups and cracking small hall shows.

“It is a real big headliner for a ‘small hall show’,” Gallagher told Irish-boxing.com

“I think it’s very good and hats off to Conrad and Fredo. I think it’s the right move. They are both ready and both confident and that’s why the took the fight. It’s not too soon for either, one of them will be defeated but that’s not the end of their career.”

“Also I hope it inspires others to fight each other here in Ireland. If you think about it, how many cracking fights and shows we could have without having to leave this island? Its brilliant and I hope the trend continues.”
