“I’d feel uncomfortable watching it” – Santa Cruz admits he is yet to watch back Frampton loss
Leo Santa Cruz [32(18)-1(0)-1] admits that he has been so far unable to watch back his first fight with Carl Frampton [23(14)-0] in New York during the Summer, in which he lost the WBA featherweight title.
Santa Cruz rematches the Belfast man on January 28th in Las Vegas, and plans to undertake some “uncomfortable” video analysis before the bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Speaking to media at the conclusion of the press tour for the fight in his home city of LA, Santa Cruz told the assembled media “no, I haven’t [watched the fight back]. I guess I’d feel uncomfortable watching it, I don’t want to watch my mistakes. Sooner or later I’ll have to watch it, when we’re in training camp.”
“When we’re in training camp I’m going to have my dad tell me what I did wrong and I’m going to adjust and we’re going to do what we need to do to improve.”
El Terremoto envisions only minor changes to his approach for the Sin City repeat, and highlighted one key tactic for the fight. Santa Cruz outlined how “I think [it will be] little adjustments. I’m going to fight the same way I do because that’s what makes it an exciting fight, going forward, throwing a lot of punches.”
“But we’re going to adjust, do little things that affected us in the first fight and we’re going to improve them and be a lot smarter,”
“…and we’re going to work the body,” he added with a smile.
