Eddie Hyland enjoyed a successful American debut, the Irish super-featherweight champion outclassing Gustavo Dailey over six rounds in the famous Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan on Thursday night.

The 27-year-old Dubliner, who represents one third of Ireland’s most successful band of boxing brothers, took his record to 11-1 with a commanding display which saw him get the nod 60-54, 59-55, 59-55 on the judges’ scorecards.

It was a fine night’s work for Hyland, who revealed afterwards that he hopes to the return to the United States early next year.

“It was a very tough fight,” he admitted. “It was a good test for my first fight in America. It felt a little bit like home with the way the fans were singing! And I hope to be back fighting in New York on March 16 with my two brothers.”
