Hyland hopeful massive World title fight will go ahead

Patrick Hyland hasn’t given up hope of a massive World title fight with Garry Russell Jr on March 12th.

The Tallaght featherweight was due to challenge for American’s WBC belt at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut on a card televised by CBS, but the title tilt has been thrown into uncertainty after Keith Thurman suffered whiplash in a car crash last week.

WBA welterweight champion Thurman was due to defend his belt against fellow American Shawn Porter, with Hyland and Russell Jr set to play chief support.

That main event is definitely gone, but Lou DiBella has talked about keeping the remainder of card together with Hyland top of the bill in a potentially life changing fight.

And Hyland himself remains upbeat, speaking on social media today he updated fans that he is “still optimistic fight is still happening – will know more in next 24/48 hours.”
