Huge news regarding Mick Conlan’s New York debut
As previously confirmed last month by Top Rank, Mick Conlan will make his debut at Madison Square Garden Theater on St Patrick’s Day – but it looks like his pro bow will be bigger than previously imagined.
Not only will Conlan punch for pay for the first time at the famous venue, the Belfast star looks set to headline the card itself.
The Ring’s Mitchell Abramson revealed tonight that he has been informed by Top Rank chief Bob Arum that Conlan will be the main event on Friday March 17th.
The choice of Conlan, who will debut at super bantamweight, as headliner is an extremely rare move from Top Rank and certainly shows their confidence in the Irishman’s appeal and talents.
The card, which may also feature Paddy Barnes, will include World title-chasing lightweight Felix Verdejo [22(15)-0] as a co-feature.
The news also bodes well in terms of Conlan’s debut opposition, with the 2015 World amateur champion now a lot more likely to be up against a solid opening foe.
