Huge Belfast fight announced for Phil Sutcliffe Jr
Phil Sutcliffe Jr [11(7)-1(0)] has been handed a huge fight on the unmissable Belfast Boxnation next month.
It has been announced that the Crumlin light welter will take on Welshman Chris Jenkins [16(8)-1(0)-1] over ten rounds on the November 5th card at the Titanic Exhibition Centre.
28 year old Jenkins won Prizefighter in 2013 and the only blots on his record came in his two most recent bouts – two barnstorming British title fights on Matchroom cards in Manchester with Tyrone Nurse last year. Swansea’s Jenkins held Nurse to a draw in the first fight before downing him in the rematch but losing on the scorecards.
The clash in a fortnight’s time will be Succo’s second since joining MGM, the first being a disqualification win over Edvinas Puplauskas at the start of this month.
The choice of opponent is exactly the sort of test which Sutcliffe has been calling for and gives him a huge opportunity to make a statement – as well as providing an acid test of his top level ambitions.
The card will be topped by Commonwealth super flyweight champion Jamie Conlan, while there is also a professional debut for Paddy Barnes, an all-Irish light welter clash between Tyrone McKenna and Sean Creagh, another tough fight for Marco McCullough against unbeaten Scot Michael Roberts Jr, and further appearances from Deco Geraghty, Sean Turner, Con Sheehan, and Gary Sweeney.
