Hogan retains Australian title- Kelly sets up title shot
Dennis Hogan ensured a memorable St Patrick’s Day celebration for Brisbane’s Irish community by retaining his Australian middleweight title yesterday.
The Oz based Kildare native registered a 10-round decision over Sydney’s Leroy Brown at Brisbane’s Irish Club to push his record to 18-0.
Hogan, 29, out worked the aggressive former amateur star and all three judges gave him the fight by wide margins despite a whole-hearted challenge from Brown.
It was the second defence of the 72kg title Hogan won in Brisbane last November, and there is now rumours of an Irish light middleweight title fight with Anthony Fitzgerald.
Shamrock Express Stevie Kelly was also victorious on the card and set up a middleweight title fight with Jake Gathercole by defeating Talalelei Pauga on a split decision.
