Hearn: Quigg risking millions and Frampton bout by fighting Martinez
SCOTT Quigg is risking a possible Carl Frampton fight and million of pounds by fighting Kiko Martinez on July 18 claims promoter Eddie Hearn.
The Matchroom boss has drafted in the Spaniard, who has 24 knock outs from 32 wins, three of which came in World title fights, as Quigg makes a massive step up in class.
The promoter admits Quigg undefeated status is under threat as is a massive fight with IBF world champion Frampton. Indeed if the Bury man loses later against former Bernard Dunne and Carl Frampton foe Martinez a bout with ‘The Jackal’ will be ‘out the window’.
“If Scott loses, a fight against Frampton will be out of the window – there’s no doubt about that. This is a proper, real-life, high risk fight which will cost Scott millions of pounds if he loses, believe me,” said Hearn.
“We are taking a very big risk with this one against a seasoned fighter. There are not many out there who would
have taken this fight with a Frampton clash on the horizon. This fella hits really hard, is very strong and exciting and, although it will be tough, I think it is what Scott needs.”
