Hearn open to making Lee versus Macklin this Summer
It’s a fight that has been on the cards well before Texas Hold’em Poker became ultra-popular, and Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn is open to making the clash between Ireland’s ace middleweights.
Nigh on 7 years of speculation regarding a clash between three-time World title challenger Matthew Macklin and former WBO title holder Andy Lee could come to an end this Summer as Hearn has expressed a desire to make the bout.
Macklin flirted with retirement after losing in November of 2014, but has returned at light middleweight indicating he wanted to fulfil his World title dream before hanging up the gloves.
He recently stated that he would be happy to return to 160lbs to fight Lee, a boxer he has been linked to continuously, and even agreed to fight at the tail end of last decade.
Limerick man Lee lost his World title after a points defeat to Billy Joe Saunders in December and hasn’t hinted to what might be next since.
However, Hearn claims if the Adam Booth trained fighter is willing he would try and make the all Irish domestic dust up in the Summer.
When asked about the bout on Twitter Hearn responded positively:
@MarkMcFarlane29 @mattmacklin @AndyLeeBoxing I think it’s a great fight and no reason why not. Matt is fighting April 9 then could do summer
