Hearn: Frampton v Quigg will not fight this Summer
SCOTT Quigg will fight on July 18 but in the eagerly anticipated ‘Mega’ clash with Carl Frampton, says promoter Eddie Hearn.
The Matchroom boss, who offered Frampton £1.5 million to trade leather with his charge, claims talks are going nowhere and the clash won’t happen as first proposed by both teams in the Summer.
Instead Team Quigg have elected to move on and have agreed terms with another fighter, rumored to be Kiko Martinez, who the Bury man will fight in Manchester.
Such is the money a Frampton Quigg clash would generate Hearn is open to doing it again, but isn’t confident it will ever come off.
“We have tried everything and we are getting no-where, so we will move on,” said Hearn.
“Quigg will fight in Manchester on July 18 against another opponent. We have agreed terms with a fighter and the contracts will be sorted this week. We will look at Frampton against Quigg for later in the year – and hopefully we can get the fight made for then. But this fight may never happen.
“The problem is, one of them could lose or get injured. This is a huge fight – but the time to have it is now. We have made Cyclone three offers – £1.5 million, 50/50 and 60/40 to the winner.
“And let us face facts – if they don’t fight each other, their next fights will earn the both of them a fifth of what they would get fighting each other. They would all make huge money, so what is stopping them taking the fight?”
