Hearn believes Frampton and Quigg will trade leather in May or June
CARL ‘The Jackal’ Frampton will make the first defence of his IBF World title against mandatory challenger Chris Avalos in late February or early March.
Cyclone Promotions will host a press conference with both fighters next week and confirm an official date for the clash.
Frampton and team Cyclone’s immediate focus will now be firmly set on the American, a fighter certainly not to be overlooked, but a mega bout with Scott Quigg remains on the horizon.
The WBA regular Champ’s promoter Eddie Hearn is confident that eagerly anticipated clash will play out in the Summer. Considering the discrepancy in the pairs ticket selling capabilities Hearn has previously stressed an open air venue in Belfast would make most sense so 2015 could see Ireland play host to one of its biggest fighting events.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News this week the Matchroom boss said:
“I do think that will happen,” says Hearn. “I’ve had meetings with the McGuigans – they want to fight Avalos. They want to get the mandatory out of the way – I don’t blame them.
“I think it can happen May or June.”
