Hatton ‘honoured’ to speak at Magee Jr tribute night
British boxing legend Ricky Hatton said he was ‘honoured’ to speak at an event held in memory of the late Eamonn Magee Jr.
The memorial event for the late boxer took place in the Devinish a venue were Magee Jr made his pro debut and acted as a fund raiser for for the charity Tiny Life.
Former World champion Hatton once shared the ring with Eamonn Magee snr, indeed ‘The Terminator’ was the first fighter to put the former pound for pound hopeful to the canvas.
Hatton was over to support his former ring rival in Belfast last weekend and pay tribute to Magee Jr.
“I said I’ll come and speak, I said it’d be an honour to do that,” Hatton explained.
“I couldn’t imagine anything worse as a father myself. It’s a difficult night for Eamonn and I’m here to support him in any way I can.
“It’s just a tragedy. He was a very very talented boxer. I’ve seen footage of him box, he was a very talented boxer in his own right.
“He had a great future ahead of him and his life was cut down very short.”
