Gary Corcoran wins battle of undefeated prospects

In a clash of the undefeated light middleweight prospects, Gary Corcoran kept his 0 in tact with a close but clear decision over southpaw Rick Skelton.

Back in July, Corcoran had overcome Skelton’s gym mate Rick Godding, also then-undefeated, and ‘The Hellraiser’ made it two-from-two last night at the SSE Wembley Arena.

Skelton gave a good account of his throughout the ten round bout but Corcoran was a class above and outworked his opponent in front of a delighted home crowd. The referee’s final scorecard read 97-94 in favour of the Londoner

The fight acted as an eliminator for Liam Smith’s soon-to-be-vactated British title and 24 year old Corcoran will be targeting a tilt at the strap as soon as possible.

With the win, Corcoran, whose parents hail from Galway in Dublin, improves his record to 14(6)-0, while the game Skelton falls to 13(1)-1
