Fury rumoured to have secured world title fight

Rumours are circulating online this afternoon that Hughie Fury [20(10)-0] has secured a heavyweight world title fight.

Talk suggests that the 22 year old will face New Zealand’s WBO champion Joseph Parker [22(18)-0] in his home city of Manchester.

Parker’s promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, confirmed last week that he was close to a deal with Fury’s promoter Frank Warren, and it is believed that a deal has been agreed that will see the fight take place this coming April at an unnamed venue – most likely the Manchester Arena.

Parker won the WBO belt, last held by Fury’s older cousin Tyson, in December, defeating Andy Ruiz in Auckland via majority decision.

Fury, who holds the rankings-enhancing WBO Inter-Continental tricket,  is trained by his father Peter, who also handles Tipperary heavyweight Con Sheehan. Fury Sr tweeted to his followers this morning that he is awaiting a press conference.

Official confirmation regarding the bout is awaited.
