Friday 13 hat trick for Ireland in Finland

Ireland’s boxers secured three wins from three on the opening day of the Gee Bee multi-nations in Finland yesterday.

London 2012 Olympian Adam Nolan, Kurt Walker and Conor Coyle won in Helsinki at the 34th edition of the tournament in Helsinki.

Nolan got Ireland off to a winning start on a split decision over Sissokho Youba of Spain and Walker made that two in-a-row on a unanimous (30-27 across the board) decision over Italy’s Di Savino Allessio.

Coyle complete the hat-trick on a split verdict over England’s Troy Williamson in the middleweight class.

The Irish trio join Brendan Irvine, Myles Casey and George Bates in Saturday’s semi-finals. The finals will be decided on Sunday.

“It was a cracking contest between Conor and the English lad, one of the judges gave it to Conor 30-27, one 29-28 for and the other 29-28 against, said Irish team manager Peter Donnelly.

“Three wins from three; a good day at the office.”
