Frankie Gavin v Sam Eggington showdown confirmed

The Birmingham derby between former Irish champion Frankie Gavin [23(14)-2(1)] and Sam ‘The Savage’ Eggington [18(10)-3(0)] has finally been officially confirmed.

The welterweight showdown will headline a Matchroom card at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham on Saturday October 22nd, live on Sky Sports.

Eggington and Gavin were scheduled to meet for Eggington’s Commonwealth and British titles last October but a foot injury to Gavin saw the fight postponed

Outside the ring issues saw Gavin further sidelined, while Eggington then lost his titles to Bradley Skeete. Both made six-round comebacks on the Josh Warrington v Pajo Hyland undercard in Leeds.

A fight with plenty of bad blood, it probably represents a last chance saloon of sorts for 30 year old former World title challenger Gavin.

The fight has long been rumoured, but terms were only agreed in the last couple of weeks. It is assumed that a World-ranking enhancing trinket will be on the line next month.
