Carl Frampton would love to share a card with Katie Taylor – on one condition
Carl Frampton [23(14)-0] would like to share a bill with ‘class act’ Katie Taylor [1(1)-0], but only if Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn wasn’t involved.
A card with two of the most talented and popular punchers Ireland has ever produced would be massive – and certainly fan friendly – however, the pair’s contrasting relationships with Hearn make it near-impossible.
The Matchroom top man promotes London 2012 gold medal winner Taylor, but Frampton has always been public about his dislike for the promoter whom he worked with up and until he won a European title.
“Why not, if Eddie Hearn’s not involved I would be happy to share a bill with Katie Taylor,” Frampton said in Belfast when quizzed about the possibility of sharing a card with the female fight legend.
“She’s a hero to so many people and I hope she continues to do what she’s doing.”
However, while he may not have the greatest respect for Hearn, ‘The Jackal’, who defends his WBA featherweight world title against Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas in January, is a fully certified Taylor fan.
“She’s a class act,” he added about the Bray fighter he regularly crossed paths with whilst they were both amateurs.
“I love everything about her, she’s a down-to-earth nice girl but she can fight like anything and I think she’ll be a big star. Eddie Hearn has got a gem on his hands and I hope that she does everything that she can do – I’m expecting Katie to be a multiple-weight world champion.”
