Frampton victim Avalos returns to the ring – says he wants rematch!
This weekend, California’s Chris Avalos [25(19)-3(1)] will box for the first time since his one-sided loss to Carl Frampton in February. ‘The Hitman’ will face Filipino fighter, Rey Perez [20(5)-6(1)] over eight rounds on Saturday at the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.
Avalos acts as a late replacement for Jessie Magdaleno who was forced to withdraw from the card after suffering a hand injury in sparring. The bout, broadcast on UniMás, will act as the television opener for Casey Ramos-Daniel Evangelista Jr.
Irish fight fans will have somewhat fond memories of the entertaining trash-talker, who was knocked out in the fifth round of his unsuccessful assault on Frampton’s IBF super bantamweight title.
Speaking to Top Rank Promotions after news of the bout broke, Avalos amazingly claimed that he is aiming to take on ‘The Jackal’ once again.
“No excuses. I just got caught. I trained hard for that title fight and would like to get a rematch. That’s my goal.”
“But Rey Perez is next. I’ve seen video of a couple of his fights so I know what he is all about.”
“Even though I wasn’t scheduled to fight I had been training for quite awhile when my manager Mike Criscio got the call for our team to head to Texas.”
