Frampton & Santa Cruz will be like Gatti & Ward says promoter
They didn’t quite produce that ‘Round 9’ moment a-la Gatti-Ward, but Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz produced the kind of all-action performance that will go down in history nonetheless.
That was the view point of a number of fight aficionados following Saturday night’s WBA featherweight World title fight, including New York promoter Lou DiBella.
Not only did Frampton make history, he did it in style in a highly entertaining dust up with the now two-weight World champion being involved in a potential Fight of the Year.
It’s a match up that Santa Cruz’s promoter Di Bella would love to see again, and he went as far as to suggest that both could intrinsically linked for a long time to come.
Speaking about “one of the finest fighters in the world today,” DiBella described how “in boxing you have some guys who are forever linked.”
“You have Barrera and Morales, Ward and Gatti and all they accomplished.”
“After tonight, I think these guys are forever linked. If you are a fight fan, this was a classic fight.”
