Frampton: I am a more all round operator than McGuigan
CARL Frampton believes he has more in his locker than former WBA Champion, Irish Boxing legend and mentor Barry McGuigan.
McGuigan has always heralded ‘The Jackal’ as a special talent and potential pound for pound star- and in recent times has claimed the fighter he managed to World title success is better in the ring than he was.
Speaking in the week building up to the first defence of his title in a bout against Chris Avalos in the Odyssey Arena this Saturday night, Frampton, whilst not stating he was superior to the ‘Clones Cyclone’ did stress he has more in his locker than the former World champ.
“Barry was an out-and-out pressure fighter, who got in your face and wore you down,” said Frampton.
“I prefer people to come to me. I don’t think he’d mind me saying this, I think I’m a more well-rounded fighter than Barry because I can go back and come forward.
“I think we are both very driven people though. We both want to keep winning.
“The way he trains even now is crazy – he’s one of the most determined men I’ve come across.”
