Frampton reiterates his desire for ‘explosive’ fight with Santa Cruz

The IBF have indicated Shingo Wake and an IBF super bantamweight title might be next for Ireland’s first unified World champion, Carl Frampton.

Showtime claim it’s Leo Santa Cruz in America. Guillermo Rigondeaux, Nonito Donaire, Lee Selby and more have all been linked to the WBA and IBF super bantamweight champion, but Frampton has again stated Leo Santa Cruz is both his and his teams preferred choice.

‘The Jackal’ wants to become a two weight World champion and is keen to challenge for the Mexican’s WBA featherweight crown.

“That’s the fight we want, Leo Santa Cruz.

“It’s up a weight division, so we’ll have to move up to featherweight but it’s about securing a legacy now. I want to be a two-weight world champion.”

Frampton believes the fans will benefit if the clash is made.

“I think me against Santa Cruz is a very crowd-pleasing fight. He is a come forward fighter and he throws loads of punches. I think his style would suit me and it would be na explosive fight for the fans,” he added before suggesting he would like to bring Santa Cruz to Belfast.

“ I would like it in Belfast, if it’s going to be the next fight it could be in the summer, but we may have to travel.

“But that’s fine too, I will fight him anywhere.
