Frampton Praises ‘Most Improved’ McCrory

Carl Frampton has encouraged Padraig McCrory to keep knocking them over and marching toward titles.

‘The Jackal’ was impressed with how ‘The Hammer’ handled former world-level operator Marco Antonio Periban on the Michael Conlan ‘Return of the Mick’ undercard earlier this month.

In fact, he has been impressed with how the 34-year-old super middleweight has gone about his business over the last number of years to the extent he suggests the Dee Walsh trained fighter is the most improved fighter in Ireland or the UK.

Frampton would now like to see the 34-year-old go on to win a major title to ensure an extremely successful career.

“It was a fantastic result and brilliant performance from Padraig McCrory to do what he did to Marco Antonio Periban last week,” Frampton said in his Sunday Life column.

“For me, Pody has got to be one of the most improved fighters in the UK and Ireland over the past number of years and you have to give a lot of credit to his coach, Dee Walsh, for that.

“I don’t think Pody had world titles in mind when he turned professional, but he has beaten bigger names that many would have expected him to.

“He should just keep doing what he’s doing. When they put them in front, keep knocking them over and let the journey continue. He could even end up getting a shout out of the blue against one of the top guys off the back of this run.

“If he would come away with a European, British or Commonwealth title, it would be a hugely successful career for him.”

McCrory will next fight EU champion Gustave Tamba for the EU super middleweight title and should do so in either Belfast or Galway after Conlan Boxing won purse bids for the bout.
