Frampton makes fan pact with Paulie Malignaggi
Carl Frampton is building a seven nation army ahead of his WBA featherweight title challenge on Saturday night against champion Leo Santa Cruz in New York.
The Jackal already has Ireland and Britain behind him, and earlier this month appealed to Puerto Ricans, the boxing enemies of Mexico, to cheer him on against ‘El Terremoto.’
Now the Belfast man has invited the Italian-American community to join The Jackal Army.
On the same night Frampton seeks to become a two-weight World champion, there will also be another two-weight champ in action, Paulie Malignaggi, and Frampton feels that they should pool their support.
Along with his fans in New York, there is expected to be around 1,500 flying in from Belfast for the fight at the Barclays Centre, and Frampton wants his supporters to cheer on the Magic Man – in return for the Brooklyn stylist’s following getting behind him.
Speaking yesterday at an open workout, Frampton explained that “I know Paulie quite well, he’s a good guy, we’ve a great relationship me and Paulie.”
“I’m hoping that his fans Brooklyn fans and all the Irish-Americans around New York come out and support me like they support Paulie.”
“And I’ll be telling my boys to do the same and support Paulie.”
Frampton then later sent a tweet to Malignaggi which was later retweeted by the 35 year old
Myself & @PaulMalignaggi have a pact. My fans support him & his Italian fans support me #ForzaItalia
