Frampton: Kiko stands between me and MEGA fights- defeat is not an option
CARL Frampton is adamant Kiko Martinez won’t prove a road block on his journey to the super bantamweight top.
They don’t get much bigger than fighting for a World title in an open air arena in your home town, but Frampton can foresee bigger fights down the line.
The Belfast Boy challenges his old foe for the IBF World title on the Titanic Showdown card on September 6 and knows victory will not only securing him Irish boxing legendary status, but will propel him into fights of the ‘mega’ kind.
Frampton is determined to ensure victory in the massive fight so mega fights with the likes of Leo Santa Cruz can be made.
Speaking to the Belfast Newsletter the Cyclone Promotions puncher also stated that defeat could set him back two years, but warned Martinez losing is not an option.
“This is a World title fight and after this the massive, massive fights will happen.
“He is the one who is standing in the way of these mega fight and he is the one that can throw a spanner in the works.
“He is the one that could put my career back a couple of years and I am not going to let that happen.
“This is a huge fight and night for my whole family and I am not going to let him beat me and disappoint my family and everyone who will be watching at the venue and on the television. I am determined to win the fight and beat Kiko Martinez on September 6.
“I beat him and the mega fights are there to be made and with those fights comes the big money.
“I have a wife, a daughter and another baby on the way. We are moving house and Kiko is not spoiling all the plans we have made,” he added.
