Frampton: Kiko hates me and will be wild and dangerous
CARL Frampton believes hatred plays a part in ’emotional’ Kiko Martinez’s motivation ahead of their World IBF super bantamweight, but claims he will stay calm to ensure he becomes Belfast’s first World champion since Brian Magee.
‘The Jackal’ knows the reigning World champion is on a revenge mission and wants to settle the score after the Belfast fighter stopped him in 2013 European title fight.
The Cyclone Promotions puncher believes such is the Spaniard’s desire to avenge his defeat and ‘hatred’ for Frampton that he will be wild and thus dangerous come September 6.
“He has a genuine hatred for me. I don’t hate him, but I wouldn’t say we’re best friends,” Frampton said.
“You can see it in his eyes, because I’m the only guy to knock him out. He’s very emotional and that’s what makes him dangerous, he lets situations get to him. He’s a hot-head, he can be very easily agitated but he’s coming to win.”
However, whilst Martinez will be working off emotion Frampton knows he has to keep his calm and ensure he employs his superior skill level.
“If I remain cool and stick to the game-plan, there’s only one winner in this fight,” he continued.
While ‘The Jackal’ is adamant he will be calm and calculated come fight night, he isn’t hiding the fact he is excited about topping the biggest fight night to come the boxing capital of Ireland, or being afforded the chance to win a World title in one of the greatest fight cities in the World.
“It’s a bit of an understatement to say I’m looking forward to it,” said Frampton.
“Getting a world title fight at home, at such an historic venue, a stadium being built for me, it’s what dreams are made of.”
