Frampton impressed by Cruz and delighted to be name dropped by World champ
CARL Frampton is ready to answer Leo Santa Cruz’s call and set up a WBC super bantamweight World title fight by beating Hugo Cazarez in Belfast on April 4.
Frampton was impressed as the undefeated champion of the World retained his title by beating Cristian Mijares by a wide margin in Las Vegas over the weekend. While Cruz didn’t drop his foe he did name drop Frampton and the Jackal was delighted to hear the Golden Boy Puncher call him out again.
Speaking after the fight Cruz said
“I want Frampton next. Carl’s been saying he wants to fight me and I’ve seen him in a couple of fights. He’s a great fighter, he comes forward like me so I think it would make a really great fight for the fans.”
Frampton, who meets Mexican Hugo Cazarez in a final eliminator for a shot at the WBC World title on April 4 at the Odyssey Arena, responded,
“Santa Cruz looked good beating Mijares and it’s great that he has called me out again. He clearly wants the fight and now it’s up to me to keep my end of the bargain by beating Cazarez at the Odyssey.”
