Frampton feared the worst after cut two week shy of Quigg fight

Carl Frampton suffered a cut above his eye 12 days out from his massive unification bout with Scott Quigg.

Speaking to Newstalk earlier this week the Irish fight legend revealed the Belfast puncher had pulled out of his scheduled Sky Lunch during fight week because of a cut.

Cyclone promotions said at the time a cold had kept the now IBF and WBA super bantamweight World champion from fulfilling the pre fight press lunch, but this week revealed it was to prevent people from seeing that he had suffered a cut under his eye from sparring.

“We told everybody he had a sniffle and a cold,” said McGuigan on Off The Ball.

Frampton revealed on the Nolan show last night that James Tennyson, who fights for the British featherweight title this Spring, inflicted the cut in his last spar before the clash.

The Jackal, who now seems to have his pick of opponents over two weights, didn’t show any visible signs of scaring a few days later at the final press conference and it didn’t seem an issue going into the fight. However, when in the first seconds of it materializing it must have caused a scare.
