Former Frampton foe González loses PBC headline bout
Alejandro González Jr, who infamously inflicted the first and second knockdowns of Carl Frampton’s career back in July, has been defeated in his return to the ring.
Following his loss to ‘The Jackal,’ González’s performance was rewarded with another PBC headline slot – this time against Frenchman Karim Guerfi. The Mexican dropped to bantamweight for the bout, however the youngster was widely outpointed at the Austin Music Hall in Texas.
Again, ‘La Cobríta’ started quick, knocking down Guerfi in the opening round with a sickening bodyshot. However, the former European champ recovered to survive the round and then went on to dominate the remaining nine rounds of the fight, showing good handspeed to out-throw and out-land González Jr – who suffered a nasty hand-injury early in the bout, stunting his attacking potential.
The final scorecards read 97-92, 96-93, 95-94 all in favour the Frenchman
González, still only 22, drops to [25(15)-3(0)-2], while Guerfi moves to 23(6)-3(1).
