Former British challenger and Roy Jones Jr foe next for McCarthy

TOMMY McCarthy could rise to British title contention with victory on the Falls on August 1.

The Cruiserweight prospect looks set to take on experienced and respected British fighter Courtney Fry on the ‘This Is It’ Feile Fight Night.

Fry has been on the scene since 2003 and has shared the ring with the likes of Nathan Cleverly, Ovill McKenzie, Enzo Maccarinelli and even former pound for pound great Roy Jones Jr -albeit an over the hill Jones.

The 40 year old has also challenged for the British title, fought at the Olympics and competed in a British title eliminator in his last fight. Fry hasn’t been overly successful in recent bouts, but holds a recent win over Jon-Lewis Dickinson in a British Master Title fight.

Victory over the experienced operator will put former Senior Champion McCarthy on the British title trail, with the British Boxing Board of Control assuring he will be put in the eliminator process if his hand is raised come August 1.
