Finally Cruise gets shot and McDonagh defends Irish title
The wait or should we say waits are over.
Darren Cruise will finally get a shot at an Irish title and JJ McDonagh has finally gotten the chance to make a domestic defence.
Roscommon super middleweight Cruise has been calling for an Irish title fight for well over two years now and has offered to move up or down weight just to get a tilt. However, much to his frustration, the opportunity to secure domestic glory never materialised.
Adding to that frustration was the fact McDonagh has claimed the strap with victory over Lee Murtagh all the way back in 2012 and had never made a defence.
The Westmeath man, who defeated Cruise in the All-Irish Prizefighter, hasn’t been overly active of late – he hasn’t boxed since May of last year – and will relish the chance to make a defence.
The pair trade leather in London on April 9 for the green strap on what looks likely to be a York Hall show.
