Final Eliminator for Sonny Upton

Popular light middleweight Sonny Upton [10(5)-2(1)] will be hoping to take a big step towards titles on March 5th at the York Hall when he takes on Matt McCarthy [14(3)-1(1)] in a final eliminator for the BBBoC English title.

Upton won an eliminator bout against Ryan Toms (points 99-93) last November and will be looking for similar success at the same venue in 9 weeks time. A win against Tilbury’s McCarthy would set the Ricky Hatton-trained fighter up for an immediate fight with the current English champion – Navid Mansouri [15(5)-1(0)].

The fans of the Belfast-raised Upton brothers – the Upton Clan’ – have established a brilliant reputation for their passionate support and it promises to be no different for the 10 round clash March 5th.

26 year old Upton, the middle of the boxing trio of brothers which includes Anto and Pauly, is the chief support on the Goodwin Promotions ‘Crunch Time’ card at the historic London venue. Top of the bill sees Wexford-by-way-of-Luton lightweight Michael Devine (whom Jono Carroll defeated in the final of Prizefighter) challenge for Floyd Moore’s BBBoC Southern Area title.
