Fighter Favourites: ‘The Pat-Man’ Paddy Gallagher
We like to start the week off here at Irish-Boxing.com with a look at the personal favourites of top Irish fighters.
This week it is the turn of Belfast’s BBBoC Celtic welterweight champion Paddy Gallagher [10(6)-3(0)].
Q: Favourite Current Fighter?
A: Canelo Alvarez is who I like to watch the most now. Moves good and very smart. aggressive, and really bangs. Very entertaining style.
Q: Favourite Fighter of All Time?
A: This would be between Roy Jones Jr and Miguel Cotto. Once again with Cotto, I love his style and always say he’s the perfect textbook boxer. Hands high, keeps it simple, and does it amazing. With Roy Jones, he was just the man.
Q: Favourite Irish Fighter?
A: Could put Anthony Cacace in here. He’s just starting to get where he should be now with this British title shot coming up and I’m sure he will win no problem. He says he would be happy to be a British champion at pro but he’s got much more in him than that.
Q: Favourite Fight?
A: Of course the Gatti-Ward fights is what everyone loves a bit of. One of my favourite ever was Erik Morales v Manny Pacquiao 1. What a scrap! When people thought the pacman was invincible and Morales stood toe-to-toe in the last round even though he was ahead. Great stuff.
Q: Favourite of your own Fights?
A: My last fight [British title eliminator v Tamuka Mucha] which I lost was a real good scrap, had a bit of everything in it. But I’d say my fight against Roy Sheahan in the Belfast against Dublin show was up there. Good performance, good fight, and a good win for me.
