Exclusive: Egan bill date change

Irish-boxing.com can exclusively reveal that TV3 will present “Big Time Boxing” live from the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght on July 5, a week earlier than originally planned.

Promoter Tommy Egan told Irish-boxing.com that it was in the best interests of fans and fighters alike to change from the original planned date of July 12 due to a clash with the Brian Peters double-header featuring Bernard Dunne and Matthew Macklin at the National Stadium.

“It would have been stupid to have two cards on in Dublin on the same night, he reasoned. Fans and television viewers would have been forced to choose between the two and Irish boxing would have been the loser.

“Even though I had July 12 booked first, I realise that fans want to see as much quality boxing as possible. I said I would be looking for a solution, and here it is.

“TV3, the Boxing Union of Ireland, and the National Basketball Arena have been very accommodating. It’s fantastic news to have sorted it out. I’m rearing to go on July 5.”

Jamie Moore, the no.1 contender for the European light-middleweight title, will headline. This is subject to approval from the EBU that he can take the fight before he squares off against European champion Zaurbek Baysangurov in the autumn.

Tallaght’s own Patrick and Paul Hyland will also appear, as will the inaugural Prizefighter winner Martin Rogan. Jonathan O’Brien and Cork’s Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan have also been confirmed.

Details of exact bouts will be forthcoming in the near future.
