European Schoolboys Championships Day 3 results

Ireland and Scotland will go head-to-head in two quarter-finals at the European Schoolboy Championships in Anapa, Russia on Wednesday following a day of mixed fortunes this afternoon.
Stephen Cairns and Ethan McGuckin scored impressive wins and will meet Scottish opponents tomorrow with at least a bronze medal apiece up from grabs.
Cairns won on a split decision against Turkey’s Samet Gumus, although it should have been a unanimous verdict, and McGuckin took a 29-28 decision across the board against Armenia’s Samvel Suvaryan.
Paul Loonam and Gavin Rafferty bowed out to Turkish opponents today, both on split decisions, but again it was evident that both Irish boxers were finding the target with the cleaner shots throughout their contests with Guclu Ahmetcan and Kaan Aykutsak.
Five Irish boxers will be in action tomorrow. Boxing begins at 11am on Wednesday.
