Eubank Jr wins in Sheffield – Spike showdown next
Chris Eubank Jr tonight scored a facile victory over American journeyman Tony Jeter at the Sheffield Arena.
Headlining the Matchroom Sky Sports card after the withdrawal of IBF welterweight champ Kell Brook, Eubank was too strong for the 39 year old.
The son of the former two-weight champ had his Maryland opponent down in the opening round and finished the bout off at the start of the second stanza.
With the win, Eubank Jr technically retained his WBA interim title – however he has been ordered by the organisation to immediately relinquish the lightly regarded belt.
Eubank’s new promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed afterwards that the 26 year old’s next fight, at London’s O2 Arena on December 12th, will serve as a final eliminator for the WBA ‘regular’ belt.
Here, the Brighton boxer will face Ireland’s own Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan in a hotly anticipated match-up two years in the making.
Spike has long called for a fight with the English prospect, and the Leesider is more than confident ahead of their heavy-hitting showdown:
@SkySportsBoxing just watched you @ChrisEubankJr you + your team would want to get back in the gym in a hurry if ur to have any chance 🍀💪👊😴

The winner of this clash will be in line for a shot at the winner of Peter Quillin-Daniel Jacobs, who meet one week previously in Brooklyn for Jacobs’s secondary title.
The organisation’s Super champion is Gennady Golovkin – who both Eubank and O’Sullivan have called out in the past.
