Eubank Jr: I would love to challenge Lee for his World title

People laughed when Team Eubank declared they have the beating of the middleweight that is both monster and maestro – Gennady Golovkin.

Not quite the same reaction, but eyebrows were raised as the controversial talent told Sky Sports that he would ‘love’ to fight Andy Lee for his WBO middleweight title.

Eubank Jr has a clash with Tony Jeter this weekend, and a bout with Cork’s Gary O’Sullivan on December 12, while Limerick’s Lee faces Billy Joe Saunders on December 17th – and in fairness he wasn’t calling for an immediate clash with the former Irish Olympian.

However, he did say Lee was on his radar. Eubank Jr calling out foes won’t surprise most, and certainly not the champ who this week indicated the Brighton native has talked himself into the limelight, but the fact the pair are now both trained by Adam Booth makes it a little strange.

Ambitious Eubank Jr wants titles and says Lee holds a belt he wants:

“Andy Lee has a middleweight title at the moment and I’d love to challenge for it. That puts [trainer] Adam Booth in a bit of a dilemma but at the end of the day, I’m a fighter, he’s a fighter, so if it makes sense, I’m sure we can get it on in the future.”

While some Irish fight fans argue Eubank Jr might struggle to get past Gary O’Sullivan, and should worry about the before calling out Lee, the WBO custodian certainly doesn’t have his stable mate on his radar.

The Limerick gent was somewhat ‘annoyed’ with to see the hype surrounding the WBA Interim title holder and has set his sights on unification bouts and the likes of Gennady Golovkin.
