Eubank-GGG negotiations broke down partly due to McGuigan
It has emerged that one of the negotiation issues between Chris Eubank Sr and Eddie Hearn regarding a potential Chris Eubank Jr-Gennady Golovkin fight was Barry McGuigan.
Eubank Sr allegedly was insistent on the Irish fight legend being used as the commentator for the formerly mooted Sky PPV show.
McGuigan, the former WBA featherweight champion and CEO of Cyclone Promotions, has what can be described as a frosty relationship with Hearn, and would have been a bizarre choice.
The regular commentators on Sky Sports Boxing are Nick Halling and Jim Watt.
With Eubank Sr refusing to agree to the terms offered by Matchroom, IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook has stepped into the gap and will take on the fearsome Kazakh.
Speaking to IFL TV, the Sheffield star revealed Eubank Sr’s demands and explained how “he wanted Barry McGuigan commentating because he was commentating when he fought Benn or whatever.”
During the 1990s and 2000s McGuigan was a regular commentator for multiple television stations. The Clones man however is currrently focused on his work with Cyclone Promotions and developing the careers of Carl Frampton and Conrad Cummings.
