Egan and Sheehan not in flying form last weekend

An over night airport stay meant Kenny Egan and Con Sheehan were not in flying form as they represented Germany’s Leipzig Leopards in Azerbaijan on Saturday.

The Irish duo were selected in the side to meet Baku Fires in a top-of-the clash, but ultimately tasted defeat after they were forced to sleep on benches in the duty free shop in Baku’s Heydar Aliyev airport.

On Thursday, Egan and Sheehan landed in Baku with the five-man Leopards squad for the top-of the table clash in the Azeri capital.

But while the rest of the team were left through, Egan and Sheehan, the only two non-Germans on the panel, were left stranded in the airport for 26 hours because the Germans hadn’t sorted out their visas.

The Irish duo finally got out of the airport at 4pm local time on Friday just before the weigh-in for the Group B clash and when the pair took to the ring on Saturday they suffered reverses.

Egan went down in a highly anticipated bout with  Ramazan Magomedau whist Sheehan couldn’t prevent a white wash as he went down to Abdulkadir Abdullayev.
