Eddie Hearn hails James Tennyson as one of worlds most exciting fighters

Eddie Hearn has become a fully fledged member of the James Tennyson [27(23)-3(3)] fan club.

The promoter, who hails Katie Taylor as his favourite fighter, has recently become effusive with praise for the Belfast lightweight.

The Matchroom boss has labelled the former Irish, British, Commonwealth and European champion ‘The Irish GGG’ earlier this year, argued Tennyson was one of the biggest punchers in world boxing a number of weeks ago and this week has been telling anyone that will listen the 27-year-old is also on the pound for pound list when it comes to entertainment.

Hearn believes the forward marching power puncher is as exciting to watch as any fighter on the planet.

Speaking enthusiastically to IFL TV ahead of Tennyson’s world title eliminator with Josh O’Reilly [16(6)-0] this Friday night, Hearn said:

“It’s a really good fight with James Tennyson and Josh O’Reilly, WBA eliminator for the world title, lightweight. Josh O’Reilly, Canadian, 16-0, big fight for Tennyson.

“For me Tennyson is one of the most exciting fighters in the world pound for pound, honestly. He punches so fucking hard.”

He hammered home the point when talking to the press on a zoom call on Monday afternoon.

The Mark Dunlop managed and Tony Dunlop trained lightweight takes on O’Reilly, a fighter with Irish roots, on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders vs Martin Murray on Friday night.

It’s a chance for ‘Tenny’ to take a significant step toward a second world title shot. At the very least an eye catching win will help him cement his name as a fighter of note in a talent packed division.
