Easy win for Jamie Conlan on Belfast ‘Homecoming’ show

Fighting for Belfast for the first time in over two years, Jamie Conlan tonight strolled to an eight-round points win over late replacement David Koos.

Conlan was due to headline the Belfast Boxnation card at the Titanic Exhibition Centre in a defence of his Commonwealth super flyweight crown. However the withdrawal of Tanzanian opponent Julias Kisawere lead to the Hungarian replacement being drafted in and the bout being relegated to chief support.

Conlan still had a fight to win however, which he duly did.

Perhaps unable to get himself pumped up for the fight, ‘The Mexican’ boxed to a comfortable points win. The 30 year old never really tried to force the fight, and was seemingly treating it as a much-needed opportunity to put techniques he had learned in training into action.

With the result in absolutely no doubt, Conlan was given an 80:72 win on the scorecards.

The easy victory sees Conlan move to 18(11)-0, while the overmatched Koos falls to 8(2)-3(1)-1.

With the win secured to round out a successful 2016, Conlan will now look to begin preparations for his WBO World title final eliminator which looks set to take place next Summer – but could come as soon as February
