Eamonn O’Kane secures World Title Eliminator in Derry
Eamonn ‘King Kane’ O’Kane will fight in a IBF World Middleweight Title Eliminator in his hometown of Derry on May 2nd.
The Derry Post’s Cahair O’Kane has reported that the Paddy Fitzpatrick trained fighter will face off against an as yet unnamed opponent for his IBF Intercontinental Title in a bout that will act as an eliminator for the currently vacant IBF World Title.
It is expected that Cork managed Hassan N’Dam will face off against Canadian puncher David Lemieux for that vacant title before then with O’Kane in line to have a crack at the title should he come through his May 2nd bout victorious.
Doubts have been raised in the past about the staging of professional boxing bouts in Derry due to the lack of proximity to a major neurological unit in the city, but that obstacle seems to have been overcome with the news that Erin’s Own GAA club and Termoneeny Community Association’s Lavey Termoneeny Centre will be converted on the night into a 2,000-seater arena for the event.
