Donnelly Clayton fight was my final

HE may have only secured bronze with victory over Custio Clayton, but Steven Donnelly claims his bout with the Canadian was his ‘final’.

The impressive Ballymena man knew going in against the welterweight gold favourite he would have to be at his best to progress.

Now having beaten one of the best in the World he believes he has proved his class and is on course to claim gold.

“I knew going into the bout that it was my final, he was the favourite. He is definitely up there with the best in the world, but I know I am up there as well,” the irish Senior Champion explained.

“It is just doing it on the big stage and proving to everyone that my talent is better than anyone in the world.”

Donnelly will face Mandeep Jangra in the semi-finals on Friday.
