Derry Dozen- Candystrips make history with one sided Blarney win
FAI Senior Cup
Blarney United-2
Derry City-12
Blarney United ‘historic day’ prayers were answered in Cork this evening, but not in the way the wanted.
The Munster Senior League outfit were hoping to upset League of Ireland giants Derry City and secure the most famous win in their clubs history.
However, they had to watch as a ruthless Derry ensured the game will go down in the history books for all the wrong reasons from a Blarney point of view.
Derry put 12 past the amateur side in a recording breaking performance.
It’s the first time in the competition that any side has scored 12, while the 14 goal aggregate is the highest ever in an FAI Cup match and the ten goal winning margin is a joint record, equaling the winning margin record (10), Dolphin 10-0 St. James’ Gate, 1932.

Goals from Aaron McCable, Ronan McEneff and Ally Ray saw City go three to the good before 8 minutes had passed..
Ray secured his hat trick before the break with a further two strikes, which sandwiched McEneff’s second and proceeded a missed peno.
Ronan Hale then got in on the act to make it a seven goal swing at the break.
The goals kept coming after the turn as Shane McNamee, another Roy strike and a finish from Cathal Farren effort pushed Derry into double figures.
Two goals in a minute gave something for the home support to shout about, but Derry scored twice more via Kevin McHattie and McNamee to make history.
