Dennis Hogan to face English rival next
Dennis Hogan [26(7)-1(0)-1] is set for a massive fight in the coming months as he steps up his world title chase in 2018.
The Brisbane-based Kildare light middleweight is ranked #4 with the WBO and will look to move closer to the belt currently held by Sadam Ali when he returns to the ring in April.
Hogan’s management DDP Sports this afternoon announced that they have finalised a deal for the lilywhite’s next fight – which will take place in Australia on Saturday April 7th.
The opponent was not confirmed, and will not officially be unveiled until this coming Friday, however DDP indicated that Hogan will face an English rival.
With WBO #1 and mandatory challenger Liam Smith set to challenge Ali next, it looks as though this opponent will be the Liverpudlian’s Queensbury stablemate Jimmy Kelly [23(9)-1(1)].
Kelly – of Carlow and Kilkenny heritage – has previously been mentioned by Hogan’s team as their preferred opponent and the former world title challenger and current #5 himself has stated his willingness to face ‘Hurricane’.
The fight in just over twelve weeks time will be the second event ran by DDP – whose inaugural card saw Hogan score an impressively dominant win over Japanese champion Yuki Nonaka at the Brisbane Convention Centre.
