Debutant Paul Hyland plans a positive start to pro life

Irish fight fans will have another Paul Hyland to get behind as the Belfast Paul Hyland Jr makes his pro debut in The Devinish on Saturday night.

The Hyland name is already big in Irish boxing thanks to former Irish champion Eddie and former World title challenger Patrick as well as former European title challenger Paul Hyland.

However, a new Hyland and another Paul Hyland, no relation to the Dublin boxing brothers, enters the scene on Saturday.

Lightweight Paul Hyland Jr  a Commonwealth youth bronze medal winner, who has collected three Irish titles at various levels punches for pay for the first time on the Road To Glory Show.

And the 23 year old plans to make an positive start to pro life.

“I am excited and looking foward to the start of my pro career,” he told Irish-boxing.com

“I’ve put a load of hard work into the training and I want to start with a good performance. I am planning to box smart and get a feel for the pro conditions. If any opportunities I will step up the work rate and try and take advantage, but its  all about doing what I’ve got to do to get win.”

Hyland elected to change codes after missing out on a place on the Commonwealth team and has a one step at a time mantra as he enters the paid ranks.
“I was trying to make the Commonwealth team, but lost out. I had offers to turn over and I had been thinking about going pro, so it just seemed the right time. There wasn’t many fights coming up for me at Senior amateur level,” he explained before looking ahead to his new journey.
“I am just looking to do the best I can. I want to keep training hard, keep busy and work myself up the ratings.
“I have good support coming for my debut and I would like to thank all the people who bought tickets. I have great support and I hope it’s a brilliant night of boxing for everyone. It should be as there’s some great talented boxers on the bill.”
