Debut opponents named for Sean Magee and Padraig McCrory

This day next week will see the professional debuts of two Belfast fighters on a massive stage.

Ardoyne featherweight Sean Magee and St James’s super middleweight Padraig McCrory will both box for the first time in the paid ranks on the massive ‘Belfast Boy’ card at the SSE Odyssey Arena on June 10th.

While headliner Ryan Burnett will be looking to claim world honours against IBF bantamweight champ Lee Haskins, Magee and McCrory will be starting out and the pair have had their opponents for next weekend confirmed.

For Magee it will be a second attempt at a debut as his initial first outing at The Devenish Complex in April was demoted to an exhibition bout as his Latvian opponent Aleksandrs Birkenbergs missed his flight from Riga. On Saturday the John Breen-trained fighter will face London puncher Jules Phillips [1(0)-7(1)]. A pro less than a year, the young journeyman usually goes the distance and has been involved in some close fights in recent months.

McCrory will begin against another English journeyman Jacob Lucas [0-8(2)-2]. Rough, tough, and awkward, it will be a good statement from the Ray Ginley-trained McCrory should he force a stoppage.

Tickets for ‘Belfast Boy’ on June 10th at the SSE Odyssey Arena cost £30, £40, £60, £100, and £150 (VIP), and can be bought from the boxers involved or HERE.
