2014: In front of 16,000 fans at a purpose-built stadium in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter, Carl Frampton outpointed Kiko Martinez to win the IBF super bantamweight title. Frampton had knocked out the Spaniard two years previously, but Martinez subsequently claimed a World title and defended twice. However ‘The Jackal’ was not to be denied on a bitter night in Belfast, knocking down El Sensacion in the fifth en-route to a points (119-109 x2, 118-111) win.

1924: Belfast’s Jim Hanna unsuccessfully challenged for the Commonwealth flyweight title in Glasgow. The Irish bantamweight champion was stopped in the tenth round at the Hengler’s Circus by Scot Elky Clarke.
