2009: Matthew Macklin won the European middleweight title with a destructive win over Amin Asikainen at the Velodrome in Manchester. The Tipperary Tornado had the Finn down twice in the opening round, the first a huge left hook, to force a stoppage and win the blue belt.

1967: Liam Mullen knocked out Gus Farrell in a Dublin derby at the Olympic Ballroom in the capital to claim the vacant Irish welterweight title. The pair would rematch a year after the sixth round stoppage, with Farrell prevailing that time round.
1953: In a rematch of their title bout three months previously, Gerry Smythe got revenge over Ricky McCullough in a Belfast brawl at the Ulster Hall, winning a points decision after twelve to reclaim the Northern Irish lightweight title.
